Jolie, Angelina, Andrew, "Angelina: An Unauthorized Biography"
English | 2010 | ISBN: 031255561X | EPUB | pages: 336 | 3.3 mb
"I like to collect knives," says Angelina Jolie, "but I also collect first edition books." At first glance, she might seem to be someone without any secrets, talking openly about her love life, sexual preferences, drug use, cutting, and tattoos-and why she kissed her brother on the lips in public. And yet mysteries remain: What was really going on in her brief, impulsive marriages to Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton, and what is going on in her partnership with Brad Pitt? What's behind the oft-reported feud with her father, the Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight? What drove her to become a mother of six children in six years? And-perhaps most puzzling of all-what about the other side of Angelina: How did this talented but troubled young actress, barely 35 years old, become a respected Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations as well as the "most powerful celebrity in the world" (unseating Oprah Winfrey) on Forbes' 2009 Celebrity 100 list?

Urszula Szulakowska, "Alchemy in Contemporary Art"
English | ISBN: 0754667367 | 2011 | 236 pages | PDF | 9 MB
Alchemy in Contemporary Art analyzes the manner in which twentieth-century artists, beginning with French Surrealists of the 1920s, have appropriated concepts and imagery from the western alchemical tradition. This study examines artistic production from c. 1920 to the present, with an emphasis on the 1970s to 2000, discussing familiar names such as Andre Breton, Salvador Dali, Yves Klein, Joseph Beuys, and Anselm Kiefer, as well as many little known artists of the later twentieth century. It provides a critical overview of the alchemical tradition in twentieth-century art, and of the use of occultist imagery as a code for political discourse and polemical engagement. The study is the first to examine the influence of alchemy and the Surrealist tradition on Australian as well as on Eastern European and Mexican art. In addition, the text considers the manner in which women artists such as Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, and Rebecca Horn have critically revised the traditional sexist imagery of alchemy and occultism for their own feminist purposes.

After 69 Ce - Writing Civil War in Flavian Rome By Lauren Donovan Ginsberg; Darcy A Krasne
2018 | 499 Pages | ISBN: 3110583968 | EPUB | 4 MB
The fall of Nero and the civil wars of 69 CE ushered in an era scarred by the recent conflicts; Flavian literature also inherited a rich tradition of narrating nefas from its predecessors who had confronted and commemorated the traumas of Pharsalus and Actium. Despite the present surge of scholarly interest in both Flavian literary studies and Roman civil war literature, however, the Flavian contribution to Rome's literature of bellum ciuile remains understudied. This volume shines a spotlight on these neglected voices. In the wake of 69 CE, writing civil war became an inescapable project for Flavian Rome: from Statius's fraternas acies and Silius's suicidal Saguntines to the internecine narratives detailed in Josephus's Bellum Iudaicum and woven into Frontinus's exempla, Flavian authors' preoccupation with civil war transcends genre and subject matter. This book provides an important new chapter in the study of Roman civil war literature by investigating the multi-faceted Flavian response to this persistent and prominent theme.

Affect, Representation and Language: Between the Silence and the Cry By Howard B. Levine
2021 | 176 Pages | ISBN: 0367774356 | PDF | 5 MB
This book extends psychoanalytic theory and practice beyond neurosis to what formerly were the limits of analytic understanding, presenting and elaborating on the rationale and implications of the transformational dimension of psychoanalytic practice. This work sits at the crossroads of the thinking of Freud, Bion, Winnicott, Green and the Paris Psycho-Somatic School. It includes the thinking of other contemporary French psychoanalysts such as Laplanche, Donnet, L. Kahn and the Botellas, plus Alvarez, Scarfone, Ferro, Ogden, and more, re-examining Freud's epistemological bases and their implications for his theory of psychic functioning. The book follows Freud in elaborating on the radical implications of his 1937 Constructions paper that leads to and underlies the thoughts of Bion on intuition and Winnicott on the working through of the consequences of early pre-verbal environmental failure. In so doing, it makes a case for psychoanalysis as a powerful treatment for borderline, primitive narcissistic, post-traumatic and other character disorders and conditions - including perversions, addictions, psychosomatic, autistic and panic disorders. Offering readers a metapsychology that is both contemporary and clinically near, Affect, Representation and Language offering practitioners at all levels of analytic experience a way of understanding and treating contemporary patients.
