English | ASIN: B0BTK96K45 | 2023 | 16 hours and 10 minutes | M4B@64 kbps | 438 MB
Author: Robert A. Forczyk
Narrator: P.J. Ochlan

The German panzer armies that swept into the Soviet Union in 1941 were an undefeated force that had honed their skill in combined arms warfare to a fine edge. The Germans focused their panzers and tactical air support at points on the battlefield defined as Schwerpunkt-main effort-to smash through any defensive line and then advance to envelope their adversaries. Initially, these methods worked well in the early days of Operation Barbarossa and the tank forces of the Red Army suffered defeat after defeat. Although badly mauled in the opening battles, the Red Army's tank forces did not succumb to the German armored onslaught and German planning and logistical deficiencies led to over-extension and failure in 1941.

Rouge Street Three Novellas [Audiobook]
Rouge Street: Three Novellas (Audiobook)
English | April 19, 2022 | ASIN: B09JYBNP7S | M4B@64 kbps | 6h 30m | 181 MB
Author: Shuang Xuetao | Narrator: Brian Nishii | Translator: Jeremy Tiang
Already compared to Hemingway and Murakami, Shuang Xuetao is one of the most highly celebrated young Chinese writers-his English-language debut collects three dazzling novellas of Northeast China, mixing realism, mysticism, and noir. An enterprising inventor dreams of escaping his drab surroundings in a flying machine. A criminal, trapped beneath a frozen lake, transforms into a giant fish. A strange girl pledges to ignite a field of sorghum stalks.
Rouge Street collects three novellas by Shuang Xuetao, the lauded young Chinese writer whose frank, fantastical short fiction has already inspired comparisons to Ernest Hemingway and Haruki Murakami. Located in China's frigid Northeast, Shenyang, the author's birthplace, boasts an illustrious past-legend holds that the emperor's makeup was manufactured here. But while the city enjoyed renewed importance as an industrial hub under Mao Zedong, China's subsequent transition from communism to a private economy led to an array of social ills-unemployment, poverty, alcoholism, domestic violence, divorce, suicide-which gritty Shenyang epitomizes.

Rooted Life at the Crossroads of Science, Nature, and Spirit [Audiobook]
Rooted: Life at the Crossroads of Science, Nature, and Spirit (Audiobook)
English | ASIN: B091Z7B56F | 2021 | 5 hours and 38 minutes | M4B@128 kbps | 318 MB
Author: Lyanda Lynn Haupt
Narrator: Christine Williams

This inspiring meditation on the intersection of science, nature, and spirit shows listeners how to deepen their connection to the natural world. In Rooted, cutting-edge science supports a truth that poets, artists, mystics, and earth-based cultures across the world have proclaimed over millennia: Life on this planet is radically interconnected. Our bodies, thoughts, minds, and spirits are affected by the whole of nature, and they affect this whole in return. In this time of crisis, how can we best live upon our imperiled, beloved earth? Award-winning writer Lyanda Lynn Haupt's highly personal new book is a brilliant invitation to live with the earth in both simple and profound ways - from walking barefoot in the woods and reimagining our relationship with animals and trees, to examining the very language we use to describe and think about nature. She invokes rootedness as a way of being in concert with the wilderness - and wildness - that sustains humans and all of life. Each chapter provides tools for bringing our unique gifts to the fore and transforming our sense of belonging within the magic and wonder of the natural world.

Discover how the food we love shapes the language we use in this sharp, laugh-out-loud story of the etymology of food words. All food has a story, reaching as far back into history as language itself. Throughout time, as languages followed and reflected the tides of civilizations, food language came to represent some of the highs and lows of how humans communicate: from the highbrow "Chateauneuf du Pape," which must be pronounced with a healthy dose of snootiness; to the giggle-inducing yet delicious "nun's farts" of Jamaica (also known as "beignets"); to the fascinating travels of the word "coffee" across centuries and continents, attesting to the undying and unifying allure this drink holds for us. From Spam to amuse-bouches, ciabatta to kombucha, Romaine Wasn't Built in a Day reveals the delightful history and stories behind the words we use for the foods we love.
