Free Download Jonathan Crimmins, "The Romantic Historicism to Come"
English | ISBN: 150132697X | 2018 | 192 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Vacillating between the longue durée and microhistory, between ideological critique and historical sympathy, between the contrary formalisms of close and distant reading, literary historians operate with such disparate senses of what the term "history" means that the field risks compartmentalization and estrangement. The Romantic Historicism to Come engages this uncertainty in order to construct a more robust, more capacious idea of history.

Free Download The Roman Empress Ulpia Severina: Ruler and Goddess
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031286502 | 395 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 26 MB
Of the twelve Augustae who lived during the fifty years of the so-called "military anarchy" (235-284 A.D.), Ulpia Severina, wife of the "Illyrian" emperor Aurelian (270-275 AD), is certainly one of the most enigmatic and less known. The book focuses on Ulpia Severina, who, even though never mentioned by name in literary sources, has been studied almost exclusively from the perspective of the numerous coins issued in her name and is the subject of many interesting honorific inscriptions that had not been thoroughly examined or adequately valued until this study. This exceptional situation, represented by the sole presence of Ulpia Severina on the throne of Rome, deserves more attention than it has received. The pages of the university history textbooks dedicated to the reconstruction of a fifty-year phase of Roman-imperial history must be, if not rewritten, at least integrated in order to give the deserved space to this empress and, therefore, to the so-called "interregnum," which lasted at least two months, between the death of Aurelian and the advent of emperor Tacitus.

Free Download The Role of the History of Mathematics in the Teaching/Learning Process: A CIEAEM Sourcebook
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031298993 | 861 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 43 MB
This volume presents multiple perspectives on the uses of the history of mathematics for teaching and learning, including the value of historical topics in challenging mathematics tasks, for provoking teachers' reflection on the nature of mathematics, curriculum development questions that mirror earlier pedagogical choices in the history of mathematics education, and the history of technological innovations in the teaching and learning of mathematics. An ethnomathematical perspective on the history of mathematics challenges readers to appreciate the role of mathematics in perpetuating consequences of colonialism. Histories of the textbook and its uses offer interesting insights into how technology has changed the fundamental role of curriculum materials and classroom pedagogies. History is explored as a source for the training of teachers, for good puzzles and problems, and for a broad understanding of mathematics education policy.

From the chaos of the First World War, during which Germany and Russia had fought each other to a standstill, there emerged two societies whose diametrically opposed ideologies of communism and fascism represented the opposite extremes of the political spectrum. Despite this, in time the governments and military establishments in both countries were able to create an environment where political expediency led to both cooperation and an eventual alliance.
