English | 2011 | pages: 600 | ISBN: 1244775894 | PDF | 28,3 mb
This study examines the transformation of the United Auto Workers from a membership-driven labor organization into a capital-driven, business organization. The transformation of the UAW began in 1980 and was complete by the turn-of-the-century. The establishment of joint labor-management committees facilitated changes in bargaining trends, union structures and industrial relations in the auto sector. The UAW was transformed by the implementation of a series of joint labor-management programs that circumvented long-established labor contracts and the UAW Constitution. The preservation of the union's organizational bureaucracy and its capital resources became the essential purpose of the UAW.

Free Download John Bellamy Foster, Robert W. McChesney, "Trump in the White House: Tragedy and Farce"
English | 2017 | pages: 144 | ISBN: 1583676813, 1583676805 | EPUB | 1,4 mb
Remember that metaphor about the frog that slowly cooks to death in the pot of increasingly warm water? Leftists have used it for years to describe how people can accept dwindling health care, fading job opportunities, eroding racial and gender equality-as long as the loss occurs gradually. Now, with Donald Trump having slouched off to Washington, most of the mainstream media are working overtime to convince us that we can still stand the heat. Leave it to John Bellamy Foster, one of the world's outstanding radical scholars, to expose Trump for who and what he is: a neo-fascist. Just at the boiling point, Foster offers us cool logic to comprehend the system that created Trump's moral and political emergency-and to resist it.

Free Download Trans Individuals Lived Experiences of Harm: Gender, Identity and Recognition
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031247140 | 312 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 2.3 MB
This book explores how neoliberal consumer capitalist ideals of meritocracy, competitive individualism, and responsibilisation have shaped trans people's subjectivity and lived experiences of harm. The book critiques the adequacy of legal constructs of hate crime to acknowledge the social harms experienced. The deep ethnographic data illuminates a variety of social harms that result from the failure of social structures and systems to acknowledge gender identities beyond the binary. The book offers a historically grounded theorisation of anti-trans sentiment to produce a persuasive argument for understanding the harms of hate as recognitive harms. In this sense, the book opens up a path to theorizing the empirically documented emotional and psychological harms of both transphobia and transnormative ideals, as rooted in a binary gender order that has been invigorated by the hyper individualism and competitiveness of capitalist neoliberalism.

Free Download Time, History, and Political Thought
English | 2023 | ISBN: 1009289365 | 362 Pages | PDF | 2 MB
Between the cliché that 'a week is a long time in politics' and the aspiration of many political philosophers to give their ideas universal, timeless validity lies a gulf which the history of political thought is uniquely qualified to bridge. For that history shows that no conception of politics has dispensed altogether with time, and many have explicitly sought legitimacy in association with forms of history. Ranging from Justinian's law codes to rival Protestant and Catholic visions of political community after the Fall, from Hobbes and Spinoza to the Scottish Enlightenment, and from Kant and Savigny to the legacy of German Historicism and the Algerian Revolution, this volume explores multiple ways in which different conceptions of time and history have been used to understand politics since late antiquity. Bringing together leading contemporary historians of political thought, Time, History, and Political Thought demonstrates just how much both time and history have enriched the political imagination.

English | ISBN: 0192889753 | 2023 | 208 pages | PDF | 1459 KB
Time and History in Hegelian Thought and Spirit examines a conspicuous feature of Hegel's major works: that they are progressive narratives. They advance from less to more perfect, abstract to concrete, indeterminate or empty to determinate. This is true, argues the author, of his lectures on aesthetics and on the history of philosophy, and it is also true of his most abstract work, the Science of Logic.

Free Download Through Shakespeare's Eyes By Joseph Pearce
2010 | 225 Pages | ISBN: 1586174134 | EPUB | 1 MB
Fulfilling the promise he made in his previous book,The Quest for Shakespeare, bestselling literary writer Joseph Pearce analyzes in this volume three of Shakespeare's immortal plays -The Merchant of Venice, HamletandKing Lear- in order to uncover the Bard's Catholic beliefs.InThe Quest for Shakespeare, which has been made into an EWTN television series, Pearce delved into the known biographical evidence for Shakespeare's Catholicism. Here the popular and provocative author digs into the plays, which were written and first performed during the English crown's persecution of Catholics. English history and literature were taught for generations through the prism of English Protestantism. Of late both of these fields have been dominated in universities and academic presses by modern scholars with filters and interpretations of their own. Though the evidence for Shakespeare's Catholicism has been studied before now, thanks, in part, to the unique contribution of Joseph Pearce, the Bard's genius is being analyzed in the open air of the public arena, the very place where Shakespeare intended his dramas to entertain and edify.
