Schlumberger Symmetry 2023.1 - Date: 22 February 2023
Electrolyzer
A new Electrolyzer unit operation has been developed to model water electrolysis producing hydrogen in steady-state operations. The Electrolyzer was developed using Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell (SOEC) technology, that incorporates both process and utility calculations to determine cell efficiency, hydrogen production rate, power, and voltage requirements.
Flare
The Flare scenario manager has been integrated with the Symmetry platform's reporting features. A report of the scenario information can now be generated with export to both Excel and PDF.
Relief valve sizing now allows user specification of the capacity correction factor (Kc) and viscosity correction factor (Kv). These factors incorporate rupture disks and the impact of liquid viscosity, with either vendor data or American Petroleum Institute(API) recommended values.
Hydrates
Updated the parameters for 40 hydrate formers in the pure component database. Improvements were based on data obtained from the NIST database and Sloan & Koh (2018). Experimental data were analyzed, outliers eliminated and regressed to obtain the updated hydrate formation parameters. The update includes pure component hydrate formers, mixtures of pure component hydrate formers and hydrate inhibitors.
CO2 Validation
A study was completed to review different thermodynamic models available in the Symmetry Fluid Engine (SFE) focusing on the thermophysical properties of CO2-rich fluids in the solid, gas, liquid, and supercritical phases. The thermodynamic models are compared to the publicly available experimental data of pure CO2 and binary mixtures containing CO2.
APRNG2 proved to be reliable in phase equilibrium calculations and aqueous phase modeling. The integration of the solid flash gives APRNG2 great advantage over other methods, since it can predict solid boundaries including those for hydrates and solid CO2 with gas and liquid in a phase envelope.
OLGA link enhancement
The OLGA link has been improved to support multiple sinks with different reference compositions. This removes the limitation of forcing a single reference composition for all sinks.
