Description
Level  2 Story 3 Pretty BethThe MAIN IDEA, "I will think before I make a decision that could be foolish." This Value Theme shows how foolish an outcome might be if one simply jumps into a decision without thinking about the follow-on consequences. The PRESTORY BACKGROUND tells about when a young girl, Beth, and when she saw her mother with "mud" all over her face. In fact, this mud was a form of a facial. Beth's mother needed to explain to her that this was a special type of mud and not the mud found in the back yard for making mud pies. But Beth wanted to be beautiful just like her mother. So, she and her brother, Thad, ran down the path and got mud all over themselves to make themselves pretty. She and her brother, Thad, had a wonderful time running and falling into the mud and getting to be pretty all over. Neither of them thought how foolish they were. The story is written around the phonetic elements of the unvoiced /th/ sound and shows the reader how this letter blend is sounded and how it's different from the voiced /th/. The narration provides further reading skills by listening to the words and sentences allowing the learner to not only see the word, but to hear it pronounced.Level 2 - Story 4 What is Singular or Plural? The MAIN IDEA, "Everyone needs one special friend." This Value Theme shows how children need and can be included into a group with their playmates. The narration provides further reading skills by listening to the words and sentences allowing the learner to not only see the word, but to hear it pronounced. The PRESTORY BACKGROUND talks about listening for the /th/ sound and to be liked by others is important to everyone. When we see someone by themselves on the playground, you can go to them and ask them if they want to be your friend. This story is about seeing the difference in singular and plural and how they apply to our reading, writing and speaking of English. There's several examples that are given to show how the concept of the individual and group is applied to reading and writing. The audio narration provides further reading skills in insights to the listener by having the student listen to the words and sentences allowing the learner to not only see the words, but to hear them properly pronounced. This story talks about singular and plural concepts and how important it is to be able to know the difference, especially for a young child. It emphasizes the th sound and shows how a singular child or student can become a part of a group and be a plural. It also shows how students can be friends with many other students and be included into a group.
