The perfect tenses let you tell people what you care about! They are essential to effective communication. Learning this tense allows you to do more than report a story. It lets you express your connection to the story you are telling. This course will answer all the questions you might have about the perfect tenses. It will show students how to add adjectives, adverbs, questions, and activities to the present perfect. It will provide lots of examples, along with assignments that will let you prove to yourself that you understand the concepts. When we use the present perfect, we are speaking about something that is important to us. It could be something that we have been doing for a long time, like studying, working, or raising children, or it could be an important accomplishment, like graduating from a university, getting married, or winning an award. It could even be a unique experience, like visiting a foreign country that we have always wanted to see, or seeing our favorite band play live. We all want to distinguish our special experiences from mundane, everyday activities. The perfect tense allows us to do this. We should use the present simple tense if we don't want to suggest that the action had a special significance to us. We should use the present perfect tense if we want the listener to infer that this information is special to the speaker.
